Randy Landau (Bass) Randy Landau never wanted to play anything but bass. He began on electric bass guitar in 1966, at the age of 12. At 17, the Jazz bug bit him and he began to study upright (or Contrabass, as he calls it), as well. Although self-taught for most of his career, he was recently accepted as a Contrabass student by master educators Homer Mensch, Alvin Brehm, and Judith Sugarman.
Randy's recording and touring credits span a broad spectrum of musical styles. From Jason Robert Brown's The Last 5 Years, Songs for A New World, and his latest CD, Wearing Someone Else's Clothes.
He has played for Chuck Berry, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Larry Coryell, L.Subrimanium, the New York Voices, East Bay Symphony and Prometheus Orchestra. He's also played for Broadway productions and national tours of Man of La Mancha, Bombay Dreams, Rent, Spamalot, City of Angels, and Aida.
